DAN HOOKER BREAKS DOWN: VOLK V MAX 2

Shii baby it's title fight time!

Aussie Alexander Volkanovski is ready for his debut title defence in the much-anticipated rematch with Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway (21-5), this Sunday.

YKTR spoke with the Hangman himself, Dan Hooker, who is enjoying a comfortable 14 days managed isolation in Auckland, to get his thoughts on the fight.

Volk's  teammates at Auckland’s famed CKB are admittedly “a little biased” when it comes to predicting how they think it will play out.

But Hooker explained why fans should expect “a statement” win, and the belt to be back down-under in no time.

“I think you’re going to see vintage Volk on Sunday, to be honest,” Hooker said.

“The first fight he obviously had a great game plan, and fought a very smart fight. He stayed super composed. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.

“This time I think you will see him loosen up a little bit, and really put it on him [Holloway]. Volk has insane pressure, he’s strong, fast. I don’t think Max can handle what he’s capable of.”

Border restrictions meant a slightly different build-up for Volk, but CKB head coach Eugene Bareman will be in his corner on Sunday nonetheless having stayed on in Las Vegas following Hooker’s last fight.

“That’s massive for Volk, to have Eugene there,” Hooker said.

“Obviously it’s not ideal [preparation] but this is what you sign up for, and he’ll be sweet, trust me.

“I know Hawaii have been pretty good in regards to Covid-19, so Max’s preparation has probably been pretty normal. Okay, cool.

“Volk has some very, very good bodies to train with in Aussie anyway. And then Eugene is with him for the last little push. It’s not going to make a huge difference I don’t think.”
